A tour of Australia always runs the risk of close encounters with enormously large creepers and crawlers. I was therefore not surprised to witness a Giant Anaconda venturing out of Michael’s attic while recording these duets. The beast was on a scouting mission for some fast food so we chose to sacrifice the music rather than ourselves. Time and a worldwide pandemic intervened, but at last this joyful effort between good musical buddies has arrived. Boatloads of gratitude to Michael for his heroic reassurance that these duets would see the light of day! And gratitude to inescapable technology that in its better uses allowed me to create music across the world with one of the kindest and most talented guitarists I have ever met.

Richard Gilewitz

Richard, from the USA, has been a regular visitor to Australia, and we formed a friendship after meeting in Brisbane in 2013. I was intrigued by his quirky guitar style, plus his dry, witty stage patter had me laughing out loud. After that, whenever Richard was passing through Brisbane, we'd catch up for a coffee and a chat, which inevitably led to the recording of some tracks in my studio. Despite unexpected visits from an occasional snake, a complete album was recorded. Echoes From The Past is the result. Richard's style is reminiscent of Leo Kottke. Mine is not. If you enjoy acoustic guitar music, I think you'll be surprised by our blend of styles, and I hope you find the listening experience as enjoyable as our recording experience was.
